300 runners completed the 16th running of the Chuckanut Mountain 50k on March 15, the largest field to complete the event ever. The day started with significant rain, ensuring that all runners were thoroughly soaked before getting on the trail. By the time the race started at 8:00, the rain had stopped. Conditions were good for the rest of the day; plenty of mud, little wind, and great volunteers on the course.
Bryan Dayton from Boulder, CO, Peter Ellis from Bellinghan, and Scott Jurek from Seattle took the top 3 spots for the men, while Devon Crosby-Helms from Seattle, Kathleen Harri from Bellingham, and Annie Thiessen from Tacoma held top honors for the women.
Once again race director Krissy Moehl did a great job organizing this race, with volunteer director Cheryl Batty adding a delightful commentary on all the finishers throughout the long day.
