Under rainy conditions, the annual Holland Days 5K & 10K runs introduced new courses starting and finishing at Lynden Christian Schools, and a larger than usual field (nearly 200 runners). Individual winners in the 5K were Mark Messiter for the men in a fast 16:07, and Alma McMurty for the women in 20:05. Winners in the 10K race were Kevin Olsen in 35:16 and Theresa Westfall in 45:58. Olsen took second in the 5K in 2007. Three of the four individual winners were in the 40-49 age division. Despite the achievements of the masters’ division runners, forty percent of the participants were 18 or younger, taking advantage of free registration for those 18 and under.
In addition to the run, in non-competitive participation, almost 75 walkers also took to the streets walking the 5K route in the rain.
